We are super excited to be bringing a World Refugee Day event to you this month at Te Rauparaha Arena, with support from members of refugee background communities from Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Levin, and Masterton as well as our partner organisations Red Cross, HOST International Aotearoa, Catholic Social Services, Porirua City Council (Creative Communities), Cricket Wellington, and MSD.
This is a day where we celebrate the diversity and contribution that people of refugee backgrounds bring to Aotearoa New Zealand, through sharing food and cultural performances. Foods and cultural performances will be from Asia, Africa and Latin America. There is also plenty of activity for the children and youth as well including activities with Pridelands and Cricket Wellington, as well as Henna for those who would like their hands decorated. All of this is free to the public, though there will be donation buckets for those who would like to support our work further..
As part of this celebration, the Change The Narrative exhibition will still be on during the day at Bottle Creek Gallery. This exhibition highlights the contribution of people of refugee backgrounds through a variety of representations.
We look forward to seeing you there.
