Te Tiriti O Waitangi – Inclusion for all

On Saturday 14th October, ChangeMakers Resettlement Forum hosted a Te Tiriti O Waitangi workshop facilitated by Gareth and Anjum from Inclusive Aotearoa Collective Tohono. Community members joined most of the CRF team and one our our board for this fantastic workshop.

We learnt some of the history of Maori arrival in Aotearoa New Zealand, of Colonisation, and of Te Tiriti and also some of the breaches of Te Tiriti. Most of all for an organisation such as ours, which is refugee led and works for refugee background communities, we learnt that Te Tiriti is inclusive and provides for all people in Aotearoa New Zealand.

One attendee commented that she had been to a couple of other Te Tiriti workshops, but this one had made her feel she is welcome as an equal member of society under Te Tiriti. There were many comments of how people felt they now belong…so a huge thank you to Gareth and Anjum
