ChangeMakers has recently produced a report on the barriers facing people from a refugee background communities in achieving and maintaining good health.

Young refugees write about their lives

Beyond the Dark Journey is a new book by young refugees in New Zealand.

The young writers are from Sudan, Burma and Afghanistan. Their stories depict the feeling of daily lived experiences, even at times when, as one narrator puts it, 'life means just surviving'.

Moving, well written and accessible, this collection offers the chance to understand the lives, hopes and dreams of young New Zealanders from refugee backgrounds.

A White Ribbon Day event  with an ethnic focus will be held in Wellington on Sunday 21 November.

There will be speeches and cultural performances. Diverse communities can show their support for the safety of women and families.

This is a free event and all are welcome.

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum has a vacancy for a researcher who will work alongside the research coordinator to contribute to refugee-focused research and support community-based research projects.

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum invite you to a meeting of all the communities connected to ChangeMakers.

It will be on Sunday 17 October, between 4.15pm and 6.30pm.

The meeting will be held on the ground floor of the MSC building (39 Webb St, Wellington). The theme of this forum will be economic independence.

We are able to help cover your travel costs. We will also provide food.

RRRF postponed

The Regional Refugee Resettlement Forum (RRRF) has been postponed.

This is because of the earthquake in Christchurch. Government officials who were going to attend the RRRF are now involved in earthquake recovery work and this will be their priority for the next few weeks.

A new date will be advised as soon as possible.
