New Zealanders from refugee backgrounds participating fully in New Zealand life
ChangeMakers Youth Internship Programme
Young people have the skills, they just need the experience.
In response, ChangeMakers has set up a 3 month internship programme for young people from refugee backgrounds to develop their work-readiness and gain experience in youth and community development.
Any young person from a refugee background aged between 18 to 25 years, who is enrolled in tertiary study (or has completed tertiary study in the last eighteen months and is unable to gain employment which relates to their area of study and skills) can apply. Candidates will ideally have an interest in community development and youth issues.
Interns work alongside ChangeMakers’ Youth Development Coordinator to deliver our youth activities, and are then placed in an external agency for one month.
The intern’s work programme is based around the following learning outcomes:
• understanding principles of community and youth development
• developing administrative skills
• building effective working relationships
• developing advocacy skills
• and developing project management skills.
If you are a young person interested in finding out more about the internship or part of an organisation with an interest in supporting our programme please contact Kirsten at email@example.com
Our Board is governed by people from refugee backgrounds who represent the interests of former refugees generally rather then their communities specifically. We also have 20% representation from other communities.
